Title:
I was shot in the back
Blackwood Gallery, Toronto/Mississauga, 2008
Description
A nine hour performance with 30 students on the campus; 14 portraits and an installation in the Blackwood Gallery. All this was held together with Schulz’s concern in painting as a political and sociological meaningful acvtivity.
Schulz continues his ongoing investigation of the relationship between political power and aesthetics. by bringing together the highly loaded role of abstract expressionism and action painting in cultural politics of the 1940s and 50s and the local history of Igor Gouzenko, a Russian cipher clerk whose defection to Canada in 1946 was the starting point for the Cold War.
